An important symbol in the inner city is the „Weiße Turm“ (White Tower), a remnant of the original 15th century city walls. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1708. Having been almost completely destroyed in the 2nd World War, it has been painstakingly pieced together again. The Fotoclub Darmstadt now uses it as a gallery for photo exhibitions. Opening hours: April- October. Wednesdays 3.00- 7.00 p.m., Saturdays 1.00- 5.00 p.m. Closed in winter.
