The Technical University of Darmstadt can look back on a very long tradition. The Archduke of Hessen and bei Rhein, Ludwig 4th established it on the 10th October 1877 as the successor of the Polytechnical School and christened it as the “Technical High School of Darmstadt”. Since the 1st October 1997, the high school enjoys a status as university. This reflects more accurately the wide choice of subjects and the academic reputation this educational institution enjoys in Germany and abroad.
