The palace- like Orangerie was built by Rémy de la Fosse in 1721. Its original use was to provide winter shelter for the Sicilian citrus trees which stood in the adjoining orange garden during the summer months. Nowadays, the Orangerie in Bessungen is a venue for concerts and conferences. A restaurant with a terrace can be found in the west wing. The orange garden itself was designed by the royal gardener of Heidelberg, J.K Ehret. It's a classical baroque garden, with broad tree- lined walks and fountains, laid out on three levels.
