The „Herrngarten“ is the largest and oldest park in Darmstadt. Formerly known as the “Schlossgarten”, you can find the main entrance on the Karolinenplatz. It was originally laid out at the end of the 16th century. Lady Caroline transformed it into a classical English landscaped garden in 1766. You can visit the tomb of the “Großen Landgräfin” Caroline with its urn donated by Frederick the Great, Ludwig Habich's Goethe memorial from 1903, the memorial for the veterans of the Napoleonic Wars by Johann Baptist Scholl from 1852, the music pavilion and the commemorative stone for the “little princess” Elisabeth.
