The Burg Frankenstein lies several kilometres south of Darmstadt on the border of the borough of Mühltal. It originated in the 13th century. The castle is famous because it inspired Mary Shelley, the author of the well- known book “Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus”. The café and restaurant provides a wonderful view over the Rhine- Main valley, with views of Worms, Mainz and Frankfurt. But be careful! Every year around Halloween it's really spooky in the castle, the mist rises and the ghouls creep out of their lairs!
