The Akademie für Tonkunst (the Academy of Music) is one of the oldest and, at the same time most modern music academies in Germany. It was founded in 1851 as the Schmitt'sche Music Academy and can pride itself on a long tradition. The Academy has several buildings in a quiet but accessible spot in town. The academy is divided into a school for professional musicians and music teachers and the municipal music school. The academy thus offers its students a comprehensive training in all disciplines from amateurs to professionals.
