The museum of the printing industry has been an annex of the Hessian National Museum since 2001. The building houses the museum and workshops for typesetting and printing techniques. The main emphasis of the collection is letterpress- printing, a relief printing technique which started at the beginning of the 19th century. This is a learning- by- doing museum. Manual and machine typesetting, historical printing presses, type founding in the type foundry Gerstenberg, lithography, intaglio in the Staschik workshop and book- binding techniques can all be tried and tested.
